If you’re looking for a dance school that will nurture your child & build their confidence, then we are the school for you. We purposely have small group classes (Max 15 pupils), as we believe every child should have the quality attention they deserve. As well as the teacher we also have our student helpers, who are older pupils of the school. They assist and support all the children especially those who are shy or show nervous tendencies.
As an extremely shy and nervous child myself; clinging to my Mum’s legs and struggling in social situations, I can’t believe how dance classes changed my life and improved my self-confidence.
My Mum tells me that as a child, I wouldn’t speak to adults, other children or even family members. Now, I stand in front of dance classes, theatre companies and can hold my own in any social situation. I have DANCE to thank for that.
Our qualified teachers are passionate and dedicated to building your child’s confidence through positive encouragement, which in turn builds your child’s self-esteem and helps them to shine.
What we offer:
Little Movers (Age 3)
Little Movers (Age 3) is an hour’s class where your child will learn Ballet, Tap and Freestyle. We use ‘fairy wings’, ‘stepping stones’ and our ‘magical river’, all of which encourages your child to use their imagination and creativity.
The Freestyle is done towards the end of the lesson and is a great way for your ‘Little Mover’ to learn new moves for the dance floor ready for those future school discos.
Rosette Class (Age 4)
Rosette Class (Age 4) is an hour and 30 min class where your child will learn Ballet, Tap and Freestyle. Whilst the emphasis is still on having fun and developing your child’s imagination, the classes also focus on building technique and performance skills. This includes partner and group work, which enhances their positive interaction with other children whilst building their social skills. During the freestyle section your child will learn varying disco styles to their favourite chart hits, a great chance for them to put their ‘wiggle’ into practice.
Preparatory Class (Age 5 – 6)
Preparatory Class (Age 5 – 6) this hour and 30 min class includes Ballet, Tap and Freestyle
Now your child is a little older, they will be working towards their first preparatory examinations in ballet and tap. They will continue to develop their social skills and blossom into a confident and independent child.
These classes are suitable for all abilities, even if your child hasn’t danced before. It’s never too late to experience the magic of dance.
Ballet is the key foundation for all styles of dance and is encouraged to all students.
Based on the IDTA syllabus this technical and disciplined genre will teach your child how to express themselves though this classical and graceful art form. Both girls and boys benefit from this exciting and fulfilling genre by improving their posture, strength, flexibility and most importantly their confidence.
Pointe Work is introduced to the students who progress to the senior levels (at the teachers discretion) and for those who wish to further their dance education, students may continue their professional training here at DDTA.
For children aged 3 and above.
Tap is an iconic style that has been popularised through the classic movie musicals such as; Singing in the Rain, 42nd St and the more modern shows such as Stomp and Tap Dogs.
This technical class is based on the renewed IDTA syllabus which introduces basic rhythm, syncopation and progresses to steps such as Pick Ups, Wings and Timesteps. Tap helps to develop musicality, rhythm and balance with a fun and exciting approach.
For children aged 3 and above.
Freestyle gives your little dancer the opportunity to strut their stuff and wiggle to their hearts content.
This style allows your child the chance to dance to their favourite pop hits and encourages their inner ‘disco diva’.
For children aged 3 to 6.
AcroDance (Age 4 yrs plus)
Using the Acrobatic Arts syllabus your child will learn the skills of how to perform ‘Acrobatics’ in a safe environment combined with artistic motion of dance. This class includes exercises to improve flexibility, core strength and how to ‘Flip’ from one side of the room to the other. So if your child is forever performing ‘arm chair’ gymnastics then this is the class for them!!
AcroDance classes are the perfect addition to the other core subjects; if your child wants to dance professionally, then flexibility and ‘tricks’ are essential to add to their performance skills. In the professional dance world, this is known as a ‘quadruple’ threat.
Musical Theatre (Age 6 yrs plus)
Musical Theatre is a 2 hour class that develops skills in Drama, Singing and Dance.
These classes focus on building confidence and vocal technique (singing and spoken word), stage presence, theatre dance, music theory and diaphragmatic breathing and control.
The children will learn songs from well-known musicals past to present day, which develops their knowledge of the history of musical theatre and broadens their performance in varying styles and genres.
